Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

By now, readers of these posts know that Melissa and I often use lyrics, song titles, or music references thus, this title is borrowed from a David Bowie song. In thinking of the content for this post, I came up with several potential titles. I kept the simplest of them but also considered “Time for a Cool Change,” (but don’t know if “cool” is a part of this change) and “Movin’ Out,” (but I’m not a big Billy Joel fan) and others. The change is that, after 24+ years, Magnus is moving! We’ve occupied an office in east Pompano Beach for all that time. We’ve upsized, downsized and have, at various times, occupied all 4 suites in the 4 office building we have been in since 1996. For most of those 24 years, we lived 7 to10 minutes from the office which made for a wonderful commute; 1 traffic light and back roads from home to office made it easy. Pompano Beach has been good for us in that much of our trial consulting work happens between Miami and West Palm Beach, including Ft. Lauderdale. Easy access to I-95 puts us where we need to be, quickly. The Turnpike, I-595 and Alligator Alley (I-75) are pretty easily accessed too. Our business involves going to trial venues, so mobility is key. And, the convenience of the location has been great. Or was, until we moved our home a few years ago and the commute became 15 to 20 minutes. Obviously, this is still not bad, but there are 2 train tracks to cross and delays from said trains. Lastly, changes, not for the better, in the neighborhood where our office is located have prompted our move. Thus, the office search began, ending quickly with an office space only 3 minutes from home – with no traffic lights! Better access to the highway systems is a plus as well. We’re rightsizing, and by the time this posts, we’ll be residing (from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. anyway) at 3500 Gateway Drive, Suite 105, Pompano Beach, FL 33069.

I am a person who thrives on change.  I dislike following the same old routine, day after day, year after year.  This being said, it amazes me that Magnus Research Consultants has been located it the same office since 1996!  That’s almost 25 years!  (Although Magnus was founded in 1993, it was based in David’s and my home until we moved to our current location.)  It’s time for a change!  For numerous reasons, I decided to re-locate our office.  I began my search for a new location several months ago, without telling anyone what I was doing, until I found the right place for us to move.  My primary requirement for Magnus’ new headquarters was for it to be located close enough to David’s and my home to allow me to go home for lunch on days when I am not traveling.  Lunch is my favorite meal and, prior to David and I moving to our current home 7 years ago, I immensely enjoyed going home for lunch.  Our current office was conveniently located near our former home, but since we moved, it’s too long a drive for me to have lunch at home.  Today, prior to writing this post, I walked from my house to the new office.  In the 15 minutes it took for me to walk, I passed the following places: a golf course; the clubhouse of the golf course; a city park with tennis courts, basketball courts, and an outdoor fitness area; beautifully landscaped grounds of several condominiums; a Pompano Beach community center; a few nice office buildings; and a Publix.  Not a bad commute!  In addition to my lovely surroundings, I noted that most of my walking journey took place under big trees, providing shade and a breeze.  In fact, the only negative thing I can say about our new office and its location is that, because it is so close to home, on days when I drive there, I won’t have time to listen to an entire song on the radio!  I can hardly wait to move!  Change is good!
