I recently published a nonfiction book entitled, “Ziggy Stardust A Cat’s Tale.” The book immortalizes the nine lives of my amazing cat, named Ziggy Stardust. Ziggy Stardust lived his 9 lives for 19 years, during which he accompanied me to college, then to graduate school, then to life in several big cities. By the time Ziggy went on to the cat otherworld, I had lived half of my life with him in it. Together, we faced many of life’s challenges. Many of the events depicted in the book are humorous, while others are poignant. Ziggy Stardust had encounters with the people in his life that ranged from infuriating, to frightening, to hilarious. Part Florida bobcat, Ziggy had a wild streak that could never, ever, be tamed. His long life was full of adventures and they are recounted in this book. Ziggy Stardust, the cat, had more adventures in his 19 year life than many people will ever have in theirs; this book depicts these events in words and photographs. Great effort was made to portray all events within a historical perspective, exactly as they happened. I love animals, particularly cats, but Ziggy was never “just a cat.” Maybe it was because of his wild DNA, but he had a spark that everyone noticed, whether they wanted to or not! My life was, and will always be, richer because of Ziggy. My new book is available on Amazon and is a “must read” for cat lovers; pet fanciers; people who survived the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s; and others who would like to see the world from the eyes of a cat named Ziggy Stardust. When I met Melissa she introduced me to her “old” cat, Ziggy. I think he was 9 at the time and I thought, wow, that’s an old cat. (I didn’t realize that meeting him was an audition – that if I had not passed, Melissa would have picked him over me, but I digress.) And, little did I know, he had lots of life in him so I lived in his world for 10 more years. Being around him added adventure to our lives. Seeing him travel, adapt to new environments, or climates was interesting. Shopping for a house that had Ziggy accouterments was never something I contemplated, but we had to find him a screened porch; the rest of the house was incidental. He had a real purrsonality and catitude. He was, as you will read, One Cool Cat. The book includes many photos taken during Melissa and Ziggy, and later, our lives. Venturing through life with a long time non-human companion creates a different perspective and milestones against which to consider a life. Ziggy’s life was so long and stretch across many life experiences for Melissa, and for me. But, Ziggy was Melissa’s cat, or maybe she was his person. They had a bond and while he accepted other people in his life (not so much other animals), they were a pair. We’ve had other cats since Ziggy, but none as original as him. The lifestory contained in the book provide an interesting account of getting beyond young adulthood into a professional career. Ziggy was Melissa’s overseer in her life about which she shares in this book about the very memorable Ziggy Stardust.
